An Ethical Huntress

An Ethical Huntress

Hunting, what a taboo topic. A frowned upon sport. And to be a gun owner these days, how could you?! When meeting someone new, hunting has made its way in to the "do not discuss" box, or the "no zone"; much like religion and politics. You never know when discussing your latest harvest if someone at the dinner table is going to say "how dare you??" while cutting in to their farm raised chicken piccata and wearing their Ugg boots. Ignorance is bliss.

Our culture has become okay with a "hear no evil, see no evil mentality", unfortunately for us, this mentality is ignorant, because evil still exists. The chicken piccata thats been prepared and set on the dinner table was so stuffed full of steroids for a faster harvest that it was slaughtered at just 10 months old. Chances are, it never even saw daylight, it was kept in a chicken house with 100,000 other chickens fighting for space to move, let alone lay down to rest. Don't worry, this is okay because the consumer never saw the cruelty. All meats served at chain restaurants and sold at large cooperation grocery stores live a similar miserable life.

Here's the thing, I am an avid hunter. I have been fortunate enough to hunt all across the United States, my father has made trips around the world to hunt (goodness don't say that too loud), I am pro hunting.... But, I am pro ethical hunting. I am pro letting an animal live its life in the wild until being harvested to provide clean, healthy, sustainable meat to my family. And sure, I do find joy in the sport. I find joy in being submersed in nature, hearing the birds, seeing the squirrels frolic and play, connecting with our heritage, something that so many of us have lost the ability to do. And if a trophy animal happens to be in my good fortune, even better. But for me, hunting isn't about killing, it's about living a lifestyle that runs deep inside me. I love to be out where the wild things are; I love the stories that come along with a good hunt, the memories of my Father and I traveling far and wide to spend time together searching for the perfect trophy, the sense of freedom (and humbleness) you feel when being a tiny spec of life in the vast openness of the wilderness.

Huntress Outdoor Apparel is about re-finding a culture. A culture where it's okay to have differences, not agree on topics, and still continue to be friends. A lifestyle that exhibits strength and the will to stand up for whats right, not turning a blind eye to wrong doings and abuse.

So, the next time I meet some one over dinner, I am ready for their faces of horror when I tell them I own a hunting brand. Politely and respectfully I will inform them on just what they are consuming (unless they are vegan), the awful living conditions their pre packaged meat lived in, and the benefits of being an avid, ethical Huntress.

This blog is for those who stand in the shadow's and watch as life passes them; scared to stand out, scared to be different, scared to gain unfavorable attention. Our cancel culture has gotten away with bullying those out of their beliefs, changing our peers minds with biased, half true facts for too long. Its still okay to stand up for what you believe in! Become educated, talk about what you stand for, tell your peers who you are. It's okay to go against the grain. Diversity is beautiful. Most of all, be passionate about the person that you are.

If you made it this far, I would like to thank you for being a part of my journey. I can't wait to see where this brand takes me next. Thank you all for supporting my small town dreams.
